Richard Gere Splits With Wife Carey Lowell After 11 Years of Marriage

Richard Gere and his wife of 11 years, Carey Lowell, reportedly have separated, according to Page Six.

The couple has "been spending time apart for quite some time" and is "planning on filing for divorce." Lifestyle differences are allegedly the reason behind their split.

Gere, a devout Buddhist, likes privacy, while Lowell, a former model and actress, enjoys socializing with other bigwigs. "They have a place in Bedford [N.Y.], and he likes it because it's quiet and he likes the solitude," an insider tells the paper. "She likes being in North Haven in the limelight."

Gere, 64, and Lowell, 52, married in 2002 after dating for about seven years. Their son Homer, named after his father, was born two years before they tied the knot. "They'll do everything possible to keep things amicable and put their child first," a friend says to PEOPLE.

It was the second marriage for the "Pretty Woman" actor. He was previously married to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995. Earlier this year in a chat with Oprah Winfrey, the supermodel blamed their 17-year age difference for their divorce. She was 25 and he was 42 when they wed.
