Chinese Man Grows New Nose on His Forehead

A Chinese man, who has only been named as Xiaolian, has had a nose grown on his forehead.

Doctors at a hospital in Fuzhou, Fujian province created a replacement for his original nose which was infected and deformed.

Xiaolian had his nose damaged in a traffic accident in August 2012, but neglected his nasal trauma and failed to seek treatment for it. After several months, the infection had corroded the cartilage of the nose, making it impossible for surgeons to fix it leaving no alternative but to grow a new nose for replacement.
According to the DailyMail, the surgeons were left with no choice but to grow him a new nose and then to transplant it in place of his damaged one. The nose was created by placing a skin tissue expander onto Xiaolian’s forehead. This was cut into the shape of a nose and was supported by cartilage taken from the man’s ribs.

As is evident from the somewhat shocking pictures, the procedure has been successful and the nose is in good shape and has developed well. The transplant surgery to place the nose in its correct position will be carried out soon, according to the surgeons.

So here's hoping that Xiaolian surgery is successful and he can breathe a huge sigh of happy relief.
