Arsenal Manager 'Arsene Wenger' Surprised To Top Premier League Table So Soon

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he did not expect Arsenal to be at the top of the Premier League table so soon. The Gunners currently lead the league standings with 12 points from five matches and the manager has urged his side to hold onto their position.

However, the season did not start well for the Emirates Stadium outfit as they succumbed to a shock 3-1 loss against Aston Villa in the club's first match of the campaign.

But Arsenal have responded well since that defeat by notching up four consecutive victories in the league which propelled the side to the top of the standings. And Wenger has hailed the Gunners' positive mentality, which he attributed to his side's change in fortunes coupled with other clubs dropping points.

"I didn't expect that to happen [be at the top of the table] as quickly as that", the manager explained to his club's official site.
"I thought of course the season is long but as you have seen everybody at some stage or another has had a bad result and that allowed us to bounce back.
"But as well the group has shown mentally a positive response, what I didn't worry about. But I thought some teams could have a perfect start.
"If you have a choice, that's where you want to be [at the top]. It's a very early stage but there's a compact group of teams. We are there and we want of course to stay there."
